Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Every minute you are angry, you lose one minute of happiness.”

Think about it…is it worth it? Seriously, is anything worth losing happiness? This thought comes to mind as this past week, I had been looking through old email and trying to find the name of a company that we had done business with in the past. We needed to find the name and contact info of the company so that we could make some changes in Richard’s company website. It took me a while, but I finally found the name of the company that had built the website.

In finding that however, I came across an old email from November of 2010. It was an email from someone who perhaps in a fit of anger and/or rage was lashing out at me/us. It was an email filled with lies and untruths. Sadly, lies that they had been told by someone who they trusted and believed.

I recalled when the email came, Richard and I were blown away by it and weren’t sure what to say. We had finally decided to respond only with something along the lines of “I’m sorry, but you have been lied to and if you want to know the truth, we’d be more than happy to meet you in person and show you the facts.” Well, the person who wrote the email never responded, so the meeting never happened. The person who wrote the email was obviously happier believing the lies that they had been told and holding onto the the anger that was inside themselves than they were in finding out the truth. Yes, at the time we were also angry about the lies, the untruths and the deceit that had happened. We had not done anything that we had been accused of doing and in fact, we were the ones who were more concerned about keeping a family together, than we were about anything else. Others however, were more interested in greed and money.

At that moment, I remembered the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson about how holding onto anger takes away our happiness. And, it’s so true.

Are you holding onto anger…something from the past? Where is that getting you? Is it helping you to hold onto anger? Is it helping you to dwell in the past? Wouldn’t you rather move forward to the future and leave all of that negativity behind? If you find yourself stuck in the past and unable to move forward, perhaps I can help you with that. That’s what I do as a Certified Coach. Reach out to me and let’s see if we can work together to focus on your future and move forward to where you want to be.

There’s no reason that you need to be stuck in a web of lies and deception. There’s no need to stay focused on the negativity of the past, let’s move forward together and plan on what you need to move forward and achieve your dreams!
